Become a First Steps Volunteer - Provide emotional support, parenting education, guidance, and linkage to community resources through a friendly initial visit  at Athens Regional Medical Center and bi-monthly phone calls with new parents. Here is what one volunteer says: "I started volunteering with First Steps about 2 years ago.  I am now a first year Master's student in the College of Public Health at UGA and have further realized the importance of programs like First Steps. I have seen firsthand how First Steps impacts new mothers and their families..."

Assist with parenting classes - Classes are usually held one night each week.  You could provide a structured activity for children whose parents attend the class, help with child care, or provide a meal. Maybe YOU will be saying: "Love the staff I work with!  Flexible hours! Excellent training and support! Awesome way to give back something to my community!"

Raise awareness about child abuse prevention - Participate in our Speaker's Bureau training and speak to community groups or arrange for a member of our Speaker's Bureau to talk to a group to which you belong.

Help secure donations to support our programs - Would your organization like to plan a fund-raising event?  Does your church have an outreach/mission committee?  Would your club or church like to gather (new) infant/toddler board books or educational toys for families we serve?

Assist with office tasks - Copying, collating, mailings, filing and assembling materials for families. As five employees of Noramco, Inc. did by participating in the United Way Day of Caring on August 25, 2010 -- assembling First Steps Parent Packets and preparing First Steps Newsletters.
